The Timothy Program is a leadership development program designed for high school students to learn the value of servant leadership while being mentored by college-aged leaders and integrated into an intentional community. Timothy students will be given opportunities to grow spiritually through a variety of service-oriented tasks and exciting adventures.
The program is designed for high school aged students who desire to grow as a leader. This includes those who have just graduated eighth grade through those who have just graduated twelfth grade.
If you are willing to intentionally invest in your community and to be stretched and challenged by a variety of different activities, then the Timothy Program will be perfect for you! We are looking for students who have a deep love for the Lord, a true desire to learn, a willingness to work hard no matter the task, and a positive attitude.
This expense covers room and board, a staff shirt, training, and most outings and adventures over the five-week session (though we do recommend that each student has a bit of spending money for the summer).
You can expect to be challenged to grow spiritually in your walk with the Lord; in your friendships with your fellow Timothy Students and other YAA staff; as you learn new skills and enjoy all the benefits of spending the summer outdoors; and intellectually as you are challenged to think about your experiences.
We will be receiving the first round of applications until February 1. At that point, we will schedule an interview with each candidate. You will know if you have been accepted into the program by no later than March 1st. The second round of applications will be compiled through March 1 and candidates will be interviewed and accepted as space is available.
While there is a wide range of roles a Timothy Student may serve in, each age has a different focus with increasing responsibility being assigned to older and veteran students. Participants may serve in the kitchen; assist our Building, Grounds, and Equipment Manager in general camp maintenance; help to clean camp facilities; and occasionally assist the Residential Program Coordinator with programming needs. At the start of the summer, some Timothy Students will assist the Day Camp Coordinator with day camp. Other daily activities include Bible study and group discussions, spontaneous group adventures, personal time, group games, campfires, and much more
Our goal is to have ten boys and ten girls in the program. Both the boys and the girls have two college-aged Timothy Leaders.
No, you will need to register for high school camp separately. The dates for this year’s high school camp are July 22nd-27th. This week directly follows the final day of the Timothy Program, so it is the perfect way to celebrate a fantastic summer and extend your time with friends by one more week! The cost for Timothy students to attend this camp is $215, $115 less than the general cost for attendance.
We do not allow Timothy Students to have their cell phones during the majority of the program. You will, however, be given a few hours on the weekend to have your phone, contact home, and catch up with friends. We desire for Timothy Students to create a community that is uninhibited by social media and other outside distractions. We do not want to take away your means of communication, but rather to allow you to fully invest in your present community. Because social media and cell phone use takes up a lot of time in our lives, we believe that now, more than ever, it is important to leave those things behind and pay full attention to the people around you
For the same reasons that we do not allow cell phone use at camp, we do not allow Timothy Students access to wifi unless special permission has been granted before the start of the summer.
A perfect time for families to visit would be during 4th of July Family Camp (July 6th-9th)! Come and join us for the weekend! The summer is intended to allow the Timothy Student to flourish as an individual and discover the leader that God is creating him/her to be. With this as our goal, we encourage families to keep in contact via letters, emails (which can be sent and delivered through the office email firstname.lastname@example.org ), and weekend phone calls. That being said, we love for families to see their kids and experience a bit of camp. It is necessary, however, that they call the office and schedule a visiting time that does not interfere with the work day or interfere with group activities that might be taking place.
All absences must be approved prior to acceptance into the Timothy Program. If you know now of a conflict, please include the dates on the application in the space provided under “General Information.” Once again, the strength of the Timothy Program lies in community formation and the full investment of the individual over the whole summer. While family vacations can be approved beforehand, we discourage extended absences because of the effect that it has on the group dynamic.
